IAMX – Fault Lines 2
The tenth studio album of IAMX, a project by Chris Corner, has just been released. The album is thought as a continuation of the Fault Lines 1, released back in 2023.
AMX is the dark alternative electronic solo project of British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Chris Corner. Founded in London in 2004 following the hiatus of the influential 1990s trip-hop group Sneaker Pimps, the project serves as a theatrical and highly personal medium for Corner’s uncompromising creative vision. Stylistically, IAMX occupies a distinct sonic territory that fuses industrial electronic music, synthpop, dark cabaret, and raw punk energy.
Characterized by visual theatricality, androgyny, and deep emotional vulnerability, the music explores intense psychological landscapes. Corner’s songwriting frequently addresses themes of sexuality, alienation, mental health, and existential inquiry, cultivating a deeply intimate relationship with a dedicated global audience.
On August 30, 2024, IAMX released Fault Lines², which is officially designated as the tenth studio album in the project’s primary discography. While some external biographies credit Corner with eleven studio albums, official cataloging clarifies that experimental modular live projects like Machinate (2021) or instrumental releases like Unfall (2017) are occasionally grouped alongside standard studio releases by commentators, whereas official documentation classifies Fault Lines² as the tenth core studio LP.
Written, performed, and recorded entirely by Corner at Silent Valley Studios in Warner Springs, California, Fault Lines² consists of eight central tracks that explore the dualities of psychological distress and self-realization. The album serves as a more organic, transitional companion to the stark, abrasive textures of its predecessor, presenting a soundscapes described as “half mutant, half prom queen sister”.
The album’s dynamics are anchored by heavy, pulsating bass tracks such as “Infinite Fear Jets” and the lead single “Neurosymphony,” which was released on May 31, 2024. These intense electronic compositions transition into melodic, atmospheric pieces. A notable highlight is “The Ocean,” a ballad with a twenty-year developmental history that features the ethereal vocal contributions of Icelandic singer Hafdís Huld.
Additionally, the track “Deathless Wilds” incorporates grimy 6/8 electronic beats and backing vocals by long-time collaborator Janine Gezang, urging the listener to embrace chaos and change. This thematic focus on acceptance, radical self-love, and vulnerability defines the album’s emotional core.
The Fault Lines era represents a significant transitional phase for the project. Following the release of the companion remix album IAMIXED: Reworks Fault Lines Albums 1 and 2 and the departure of live bassist Janine Gezang in late 2025, IAMX continues to evolve, using the therapeutic exploration of psychological boundaries to prepare the ground for its next creative chapter.
